In his 23 seasons as Head Baseball Coach, Rich’s teams won 10 Ivy League Championships, he was named the 1988 Ivy League Coach of the Year and he led his teams to 6 Riverside City Tournament championships.
Rich actively participated in all sports while attending Magnolia Elementary School, Central Junior High and in the Recreation Department Little League program at Palm School. Rich would also play Pony League baseball and Connie Mack League baseball. After graduating from Poly High School in 1957 and while a student at RCC, Rich coached Riverside Colt League Champions in 1960, 1961 and 1962. He continued his sports involvement while a baseball player at Chico State and while serving for two years in the U.S. Naval Reserves. Rich’s arrival at JW North High School in 1968 would be the start of nearly three and a half decades of service in various coaching and administrative positions. He was Assistant Football Coach (1968-1986 and 1994-1999), Head Baseball Coach (1969-1991 and 1997), JV Basketball Coach (1987-1998) and Athletic Director (1976-1977 and 1990-2001) for the Huskies. In his 23 seasons as Head Baseball Coach, Rich’s teams won 10 Ivy League Championships, he was named the 1988 Ivy League Coach of the Year and he led his teams to 6 Riverside City Tournament championships. Coach Stalder’s overall baseball coaching record was 329-213-2. As Athletic Director, North won 10 CIF-SS Championships and 2 State titles in five different sports, in addition to six sports sending nine teams to CIF Title games. His true legacy lies in his devotion to building his program on unshakeable principles of punctuality, accountability and teamwork.
