Rex began winning races at 22 and was hailed as the “Riverside Rocket”. His talent propelled him to Pacific Coast Championships at Ascot Legion Speedway in 1934 & 1935 and AAA National Championships in 1940 & 1941. In twelve Indy 500’s, he won pole position 4 times, front row 6 times and led 9 races, finishing 2nd twice. Rex was “a hero, who had no enemies, only friends”. He tragically lost his life at Del Mar at 36. Rex was inducted into the International Motor Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.
