Jim came to Riverside in 1981 after spending four years in the Air Force, four years at The Ohio State University and one year working teaching and athletic training in Florida. Moving across country to Riverside, Jim was the coordinator of The SPORT Clinic in Riverside, which cared for athletes of 40+ high schools and colleges for more than 30 years. He is currently the Sports Clinic Coordinator at Riverside Medical Clinic, which sees more than 3,000 high school athletes each year, continuing the legacy of service to the Riverside community. Additionally, he teaches sports medicine classes for local high schools and Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries at California State University, San Bernardino. Jim is also the owner of Clover Enterprise Inc. a business that provides athletic training coverage to 30+ high schools in the Southern California region. Known for his innovative thinking and practical implementation of interventions, Jim is the inventor of the Trainer’s Angel, a tool used to remove facemasks from football helmets in emergency situations. He has also authored three Sports Medicine textbooks books, supervised the creation of numerous videos various athletic training topics and coordinated 25 years of sports medicine conferences. Attendance at his “Practical Applications in Sports Medicine” seminars is full each year for fellow professionals who wish to learn immediate and first-hand information that can be readily applied to clinical settings.
Jim is the long-time coordinator for the Inland Empire All-Star Football Classic which for the last 32 years has been the premier after-season showcase for area football players. This event was conceived with Doctor Jerome Wall and is run through the non-for-profit SPORT Foundation, which has provided over $170,000 in scholarship support. He has been honored professionally by the National Association of Athletic Trainers and on May 24, 2017 was named one of four Fathers of the Year by the American Diabetes Association for his commitment to the community.
Jim has been happily married to Becki since 1983 and they have two wonderful girls. Oldest daughter Sydney graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and is now a Director of Development at the production company Leftfild Entertainment in New York City. Ryann has an undergraduate degree in Music Education from California State Polytechnic, Pomona and a graduate degree in vocal performance from the Longy School of Music. She has taught private music lessons and now is teaching music Willow Elementary School in Palo Alto, CA. She is also the director of Aim High East Palo Alto.
