In 1950 he married Barbara Bennet (Poly 1948) Four children, 13 grandchildren 18 great-grandchildren 1945 Poly class President; varsity letterman football: basketball, track, and baseball- After service: returned to Riverside Junior College. Lettered 2 years in football and baseball.

He was the San Diego State University quarterback 1948, ’49, ’50 league champs. Bachelor of Arts: Economics and Political Science- Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was Chief of Staff to San Diego Congressman Bob Wilson in Washington D.C. (1958-62) Chaired San Diego Super Bowl Task Force winning 1988 Super Bowl XXII. Subsequently in San Diego Super Bowls XXXII in 1998 and XXXVII in 2003.

In 1990 he was an owner of the San Diego Padres Baseball Club. Purchased with friends to keep it in San Diego. He was a close personal friend of President Gerald R. Ford; golf partner for five decades; member of Transition Committee that moved Ford from Vice President to President in 1990.

Leon accompanied the President and Mrs. Ford to Vatican for meeting with Pope John Paul II. He was an Honorary Guest at President Ford’s State Funeral.
